Garden Fountains

A garden fountain can be the centerpiece of a decorative garden. It serves as a great foundation for a new garden space. Browsing the varieties of fountains will give you a great grasp on just how much variety is available in the genre.

The garden fountain is not a new invention, the first fountains were in Babylon and date back to approximately the third century BC. Nearly from their outset, fountains were synonymous with gardens, as the sound of flowing water added to the vitality of the carefully kept grounds. The Hanging Gardens of Babylon famously housed both irrigation and fountains, which were a large part of what marked them out as one of the wonders of the ancient world.

The word fountain itself comes from Latin, and the Romans were indeed famous for their garden fountains. They also brought the fountain out of the garden and created the first plaza fountains. The aim was the same regardless of the fountain’s location: bring life, movement, and sound to a place to raise the enjoyment level of that place.
